River Springs is launching G.R.O.W. Outreach starting Sunday, October 1.
We are so excited about the work God is preparing to do in our community! This outreach program is designed for busy people and contemporary times and so is quite different from traditional outreach programs. You may have some questions about River Springs’ newest ministry…
Why do we want to start an outreach program? We want to reach out into the community and take Jesus to people where they are rather than waiting on them to come to us.
What do you mean by “outreach?” Outreach takes many forms. We’ll call church visitors to arrange visits and visit these families in their homes. We’ll send postcards to families participating in community events like Parents’ Night Out and Family Movie Night. We’ll also make unannounced visits to newcomers to the area to take them cookies and area information.
Who can participate? EVERYone is encouraged to participate! We encourage you to take the Share Jesus Without Fear evangelism training class to be better prepared to go on home visits, however, if you haven’t taken the class you can still participate in calling church visitors, writing postcards, and praying for our outreach teams.
How will I have time to participate in another activity at church? This form of outreach is designed for the busy person. It’s organized in teams and each team participates in outreach once a month. That’s only 12 times a year! We all should be able to squeeze in a commitment that requires only 12 times a year.
What should I expect on a G.R.O.W. Outreach night? Participants will meet at the church by 7:00 on their designated Sunday night. They will be assigned to go on visits in small groups, stay at the church and arrange visits for the following week, write prospects to invite them to church, or provide prayer coverage. Outreach activities occur from 7:10 – 8:00. Everyone will return to the church to report their experiences and head home by 8:15.
What does G.R.O.W. stand for? God Rewards Our Work. We fully believe that God has prepared us and our surrounding community for this ministry for this specific time. God will reward our efforts to reach our community for Christ. Don’t miss out on the spectacular work God is going to do!
Who do I contact for more information? Contact Laura Fox.
Scrap-Booking Workshops Begin September 15
This workshop is open to the experienced as well as those new to preserving photos and memories in albums. Two women from the Ashford neighborhood are hosting this event for their customers, our congregation and the public. Many have compared these events to old-fashioned quilting bees. It’s a great opportunity to gather with others, reminisce, create a family treasure and have fun! There will be monthly, Friday night workshops at River Springs Church. Make plans to attend the Shaping the Way You Remember workshop, Friday, Sept. 15 from 6 p.m. to midnight at River Springs Church. Cost is $10 and includes a light supper, snacks, croptalk, door prizes and a $3.50 CM gift certificate to be used that evening. To RSVP or for more information, please contact Linda Carle at 732-5527 or email at lindacarle@sc.rr.com
Nametag
Do you know everybody at church? Let’s help each other learn names and make things easier for newcomers. Stop by the table in the lobby each time you come to church and make a nametag (first name is enough) for you and your family members.
First Fruits
We receive tithes and offerings as a part of the worship service. This moment of worship will come before the pastor’s message, so we invite everyone to prayerfully and materially prepare. Remember to mail your tithe or offering to the church if you cannot attend worship.

Smoky Mountain Horseback Riding - Gatlinburg, TN (September 22-23) On September 22 and 23, we are going horseback riding in the mountains! A good horse beneath you; a blue sky above; the creaking of saddle leather and the smell of fresh air, while enjoying a peaceful view of the Great Smoky Mountains on the back of a well trained horse. I know that some of you have been waiting for this and it’s finally around the bend. We are going to the Gatlinburg, Tennessee for some trail riding in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Forest. What’s even better is that our accommodations are absolutely FREE! Thanks to Jack and Shirley Powers, who have kindly granted the use of their mountain house in Pigeon Forge at no cost. Here are some of the details. This is great for beginner through advanced riders. This ain’t no cow pasture ride! It’s on mountain trails. The terrain is not flat. A 1 Hour ride is $20.00 / person (4 miles of wooded trails & mountain streams) and a 2 Hour ride is $38.00 / person (8 miles of wooded trails & mountain streams *For the Experienced Rider*) Registration ends September 17 ($20 deposit). Rooming preference will be based on time of registration. There will be a little additional cost for food and transportation. Space is limited, so if you are interested, please register as soon as possible, but no later than September 17 for a mountain adventure that you won’t soon forget.
See You at the Pole - @ Your Campus Flagpole (September 27) “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10a) That’s the theme of SYATP this year. God desires a spiritual awakening on your campus more than you could ever imagine! He wants to breathe new life into Christians that is so contagious it affects your entire community and the world. SYATP is your opportunity, the perfect rallying point to bring together other believers, to start new and fresh…a new beginning and opportunity for the Spirit of God to radically impact your school. Do you really believe this school year can be different? Really? Radically different? IT CAN BE—STARTING WITH YOU! The prayer life of the Christian is the true gauge of the rest of his/her life. No one's spiritual walk ever exceeds one's inner life of prayer. Your zeal, busyness, generosity, or witnessing is only as effective as your time alone with God in prayer. So, September 27, at your campus flag pole, stand with other Christian students, stand with Christ Jesus, and pray for your friends, for lost students, for your school staff, for our country. “I’ll see you at the pole!”
