RSC has partnered with three local organizations to serve in local missions for iServe Day on May 18th. It will be a great time for everyone to “Go” into the community and do work that will impact many people in our area. Come serve by yourself, with your spouse or with your family. We will be working at the following sites:
The Blue House – It’s located on the grounds of Dutch Fork Baptist Church on Hwy 6. We have partnered with the Blue House to help families that are transitionally homeless. This house is used for emergency shelter for families in Rich/Lex School District Five, where families stay for a short term while they find more permanent housing. We will be painting two rooms, moving some furniture around, organizing rooms and doing a deep clean of the kitchen. Kids are welcome at this site for families to serve together.
Leeza’s Care Connection – It’s located at 201 St Andrews Road in Irmo. This facility is used to help families cope with chronic illness through free tips, strategies and support. This group works passionately with one urgent goal in mind: to create an atmosphere of encouragement and empowerment, allowing caregivers to flourish and thrive as they call on their courage and summon their strength, creating better outcomes for the person being cared for and for the caregiver themselves as they also learn how to maintain their own health and life while caring for someone they love. We will be building shelves in a closet, organizing a large craft room and doing yardwork, including trimming bushes, cleaning out flower beds and planting new flowers. Kids are welcome at this site to serve as a family.
Habitat for Humanity – This construction project is building a house for Lateef who is a single dad with joint custody of two children. It is located off of Monticello Road in Columbia. Lateef suffers from a disease in his back and while he does work jobs when possible, his main income is disability. In September he had another back surgery. Due to his tight income, Habitat was the most affordable option for him to become a homeowner. Lateef has worked many hours towards the building of his home, mostly in the ReStore and recently was able to start the savings loan towards his closing. He is planning on being with us on May 18th and appreciates us coming to help with his home. You can choose the morning or afternoon time slot or both to work at this project. No children under the age of 16 can be on this construction site. Any student 16-18 yrs old must have a waiver signed prior to working – will be provided for those who sign up. Details of what we will be doing that day will come closer to iServe Day as it depends on the progress of the build.
We need many hands and feet on iServe Day to do these three projects. There are sign-up sheets at the Welcome Center or sign up below. Contact Terry Adkins with any questions firstname.lastname@example.org
